Each day it becomes more evident that the health care system in America is failing. More prescription medications are being prescribed now than ever before and yet Americans are becoming increasing ill. According to a report from the Centers for Disease Control spending for prescription drugs in 2008 was $234.1 which is more than double what was spent in 1999. In the US, doctors now fill out 12 prescriptions per year, on average, for every American. We have become a society of 'symptom treating'. Why is this an issue? Each prescription is intended to treat an ailment but comes with its own list of extremely harmful side effects serving only to contribute to our ill health. The problem is, pharmaceutical drugs are man-made and synthesized from chemicals that pollute our bodies and inhibit the natural healing process including proper immune system functioning. Yet many Americans are trapped in the mindset that Health care = Prescription drugs. At this point you might be asking, "what other options do I have"? Brief History of Essential Oils
Essential oils where the first medicines used. Records dating back to 4500 B.C. describe the use of balsamic substances with aromatic properties for medical applications, religious rituals, and aromatic healing . For many centuries, essential oils were used for the treatment of illness and other physical and spiritual needs. From Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts, we know that priests and physicians have been using essential oils for thousands of years. Egyptian temples were dedicated to the production and blending of essential oils. Literally hundreds of recipes were found recorded on the walls in hieroglyphics. Due to the physical and emotional healing properties of essential oils, civilizations throughout history have placed their value far beyond that of jewels! Essential oils have been used throughout history to evoke altered states of consciousness and used during spiritual rituals as a form of initiation. To "anoint" (from the Latin word inunguere - which means "to smear with oil) is to make a person sacred, to set them apart and dedicate them to serve a higher spiritual purpose. In fact, the Holy Bible refers to the use of anointing oils 188 times. The Hebrew form of "Messiah" and the Greek form of "Christ" literally means “anointed.”
What is an Essential Oil
Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants. They are both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils provide plants with protection against predators and disease and play a significant role in plant pollination. Essential oils are non water-based photochemicals made up of volatile organic compounds. Although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils. When extracted properly, essential oils are very clean and are immediately absorbed by the skin. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue. Pure therapeutic grade essential oils are very concentrated making them 50 to 70 times more powerful than herbs. One drop of Peppermint oil is as powerful as 28 cups of Peppermint tea. That is just plain phenomenal! AND, essential oils are completely natural which means there is nothing added and nothing taken away so there are no side effects and no possibility of addiction.
Drug manufacturers are forever creating new drugs to combat bacteria, but the fact remains, the bugs keep developing immunity to our antibiotics. Essential oils are actually MORE powerful than medications and kill both bacteria and viruses and do not develop immunity to an essential oil. The main reason for this is that Essential oils are comprised of hundreds of compounds, while laboratory-produced medicines usually consist of only one or two active ingredients.
